Some thoughts from a pediatric ICU physician and child advocate……

As we begin a new year, we pray for an end to this horrible chapter, and we are grateful for the incredible sacrifices made by our front-line nurses, physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and staff.

They are tired, demoralized and need us to come together finally as a society.

We must also re-double our efforts to protect America’s children. They remain at risk, and we need to realize:

-Some 803 children aged newborn to 18 have died from COVID (CDC)

-Children under age 5 do not yet have access to a vaccine

-Only 16% of children aged 5-12 have been fully vaccinated against COVID (KFF Dec 21)

-Children under age 12 do not have access to monoclonal antibodies effective against OMICRON or oral anti-viral therapies.

We need to focus on keeping our kids safe from this horrible virus and it will take all of us working together.

I can think of no better New Year’s Resolution.
